This book began with a set of the library card pockets from North Curl Curl Public School’s cancelled library books. You’ll see the occasional stamp on the interior shots below.
Library cards and their pockets are a thing of the past, and these have history in them. I still have the actual cards, which I’ll get to eventually!
I made a single flag book to hold the pockets together.
I took a quote about books and wrote it in stylised print on transparent paper and on the back of some of some metallic decorated paper
when you sell a man a book you don’t sell him just twelve ounces of paper and ink and glue — you sell him a whole new life. Love and friendship and humour and ships at sea by night — there’s all heaven and earth in a book
Most pages have just one word on them, and many are so stylised that it’s difficult to read. (see below)
Each pocket now houses 2 or 3 pieces of paper, translucent and non. Next week I’ll make a box (or a mini-bookshelf) to house it.
Materials: re-purposed library pockets, cardboard, metallic and transparent paper, and sharpie markers (ink). The tiny price tag was white, and I used the green sharpie to colour it in, including its string!
